Dear AlaskaWriter, Welcome
to the AlaskaWriters Homestead,
a home on the Web for writers
from Alaska, and those who share
Alaska’s pioneering spirit.
If
you want to (ever so
occasionally) be informed about
upcoming features or updates to
the site, sign up for the
AlaskaWriters mailing list
(above). To say I don’t abuse
the privilege would be an
understatement. The truth is my
missives are rare, though I hope
valuable. And, of course, I
don’t share or sell my e-mail
list.
Singing Ice Video
During freeze-up in 2006, the lake
had been frozen over completely for
five days. I am checking the ice
thickness to see if we can drive the
car to our house. The ice is
singing, a scary sound when you're
standing on it. We drove the
snowmachine for four days and were
then able to switch to driving the
car, but only after Dale Haggard
drove his truck home.
